This is why New York moms say, “Your Eyes are Bigger than Your Stomach!”
New York City is the place where you can see a lot of the world’s largest things. There was the world’s largest LEGO model — an X-Wing Starfighter spaceship from Star Wars — that LEGO and LucasFilms displayed in Times Square in May 2013. The biggest solar-powered boat on Earth, the “Turanor PlanetSolar” docked in New York in June 2013. And in 2015 or 2016, a giant 625-foot tall Ferris wheel called the New York Wheel will open on Staten Island! (“They like it. They wheely like it,” wrote New York Daily News reporter Casey Tolan.)
But today, let’s take a road trip to find a totally different example of one of our Big Things To See in the USA… now first off, let’s establish something: do you like candy? Do you REALLY like candy? If you said yes, then it’s time to climb into your rental car and drive to the historic lower east side of New York City for a taste of The Sweet Life!
The Sweet Life candy and chocolate shop is a family owned business established over 30 years ago, and in addition to treats like gourmet chocolates, hard candies, caramels, dried fruit and nuts, coffee, and tea, it’s the home of the amazing World’s Largest Gummy Bears!
Priced at $35, this amazing beast is a child’s dream and it’s also that child’s dentist’s nightmare. The World’s Largest Gummy Bear weights 5 pounds and is 10 inches tall. And they’re made in 3 of your favorite flavors: Cherry; Orange; and Blue Raspberry (pictured).
The whole thing is…
Equivalent to 1,400 normal gummy bears!
Contains a whopping 12,600 calories!!
Is enough candy for 90 servings!!!
To get to The Sweet Life and get your hands on one of the World’s Largest Gummy Bears, drive your rental car to Lower Manhattan on FDR Drive. Take exit 4 onto Grand Street, and drive a little less than a mile. Turn left onto Ludlow Street and the candy store is just a block away, on the left, at 63 Hester Street.
The store is open Monday through Friday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm and Sunday 11:00 am – 6:00 pm, but is closed on Saturday. So don’t delay! Just have another look at the World’s Largest Gummy Bear! It’s calling your name!
